Corporate & Business Experience

Richard has held senior management positions and has been involved in business/corporate strategy formulation and implementation in a blue-chipped listed company, an Asian conglomerate, a Japanese merchant bank and a government body. He has more than 30 years of diverse experience which spans accounting/finance, business development and sales/marketing.

Richard has provided corporate advisory services in several multi-million dollar joint ventures and strategic alliances. He is a multi-disciplinary professional with a MBA in Creative Problem Solving & Decision Sciences (University of Hull), double qualifications in accountancy (B. Acc. & ACCA) and a post-graduate qualification in Marketing (Marketing Institute of Singapore), attained full Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ACTA) awarded by the Workforce Development Agency (Singapore government).

Richard is an Innovation Practitioner:

  • Inventor of the Zeros-To-Heros game which has been nominated for the MENSA Select seal even though he does not play any board game except for Monopoly and the Cashflow game.

  • Appointed as Promotions Manager of Asia Pacific Breweries, a blue chip listed company even though he does not have any sale and marketing experience.

    • Richard innovation capacity boosted his career adaptability and employability. He has secured good jobs in 5 different industries with each job in a different functional area compared to previous jobs. What is amazing is that he was climbing the corporate ladder all the time.

  • Richard recovered > S$700,000 bad/doubtful debts (outstanding for more than 1.5 years) in less than 3 months from a Middle East firm for a joint-venture entity for a multi-billion conglomerate. His effective innovative tactics saved the Salim Group costly legal fees and management resources.

 

Expertise in Business Model Innovations
  • Invited speaker at the Singapore Innovation & Productivity Conference: Business Model Innovation: Redefining Possibilities. Event was hosted by the Singapore Manufacturing Federation and the Singapore Innovation and Productivity Institute.

  • Designed & delivered public-runs and in-house Business Model Innovations workshops.

  • Delivered workshops: “Developing Business Model Innovations” to iCentre Brunei

  • Designed and delivered a well received programme – CFO as the Corporate Strategist – Mastering the Strategy Toolkit for the ACCA (Singapore).

Acc. & ACCA) and a post-graduate qualification in Marketing (Marketing Institute of Singapore), Certificate in Systems Analysis from the Japan-Singapore Institute of Software Technology. Richard is a Certified Trainer & Assessor by the Workforce Development Agency (WDA) – Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA).

Boaz Boon

Trainer

A former Senior Vice-President of a billion-dollar Singapore listed company, Boaz was responsible for enhancing the organization’s capabilities through the design and delivery of programmes.

Adopting a holistic and integrated approach, he forged strategic partnerships with educational institutions. He focused on the latest real estate innovations and thinking to CapitaLand through news, case studies, seminars, and other collaborations. His portfolio included research in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, India, UAE, Kazakhstan, Russia and London.

 

Boaz holds a Ph.D from Cambridge University (UK). Prior to joining CapitaLand in 2001, he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Real Estate (NUS) in charge of Real Estate Market Analysis and Urban Management Modules. He has also spent some time in the Ministry of National Development in Public Housing. He has taught and delivered papers in many institutions. Amongst them were the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Bank for International Settlement. Boaz is also an Elder at Cornerstone Church Singapore.

Harold Tan

Trainer

Harold Tan, Real Estate Advisory & Corporate Relations Director of VestAsia Group Pte Ltd., holds a wealth of expertise in international business development, P&L management, sales & marketing, joint ventures, corporate restructuring and acquisitions. He has set up new business units, negotiated and developed multimillion-dollar portfolios of commercial projects throughout Asia and re-structured companies to increase profitability and efficiency through new business development and market penetration strategies.

Harold has carved his niche in the marketplace. The organizations he has worked for remain profitable even in declining business environments or recessionary conditions. He has managed various management teams in different corporate cultures and is an excellent leader, manager, marketer, negotiator and relationship builder.

 

Harold graduated from the National University of Singapore (1981) with an honors degree in Estate Management and obtained his Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia (1985) . After spending 27 years in the real estate industry, as General Manager or Associate Director in several companies, Harold joined the National University of Singapore as an Associate Professor and Director of the Real Estate Careers Center. He has left NUS and is now a Senior Advisor with VestAsia Group.

 

Some of Harold’s recent involvements include:

Completing a Competitive Study and Concept Proposal for Hallyu World Shopping Mall, a Korean-Popular Culture themed mall (about 380,000 sq ft) in Seoul, South Korea.

Conducting classes in Shopping Centre Management and Retail Basics for Shopping Centre Managers from the region (KLCC (Malaysia), Ayala Group (Philippines), Land & House (Thailand), Central Group (Thailand) and Shinsagae (Korea). Setting up and managing the Township Development Unit at Keppel Land. He was responsible for a portfolio of about S1,000 million worth of landed assets. The unit was responsible for investing and developing integrated townships which comprise residential, commercial, retail, hospitality, light industrial and mixed-use projects in countries like China, India, Vietnam and Indonesia. Under his watch, the teams he led successfully launched Chengdu Botanical Garden Township (China), Wuzi Garden City (China) and Jakarta Garden City (Indonesia).

Michael Pang

Trainer

Michael Pang, a former Director of Corporate Development for a Singapore listed company, was certified by the American Society for Quality as a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer and Reliability Engineer. The PSB (formerly SPRING Singapore) appointed him as an official Singapore Quality Awards Assessor for three consecutive years: 1997 to 1999. He was invited to speak at the National Conference on Malcolm Baldridge Criteria in Higher Education by Auburn University (USA). The American Society for Quality Programme Committee of the Six Sigma Annual Conference chose him to lead in the first six-hour of the Pre-Conference Session in 2004. The theme  was ‘Excellent by Design.’ He is a graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (USA) and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons) and Master’s degree in Engineering Management. He is also a WDA-ACTA Certified Trainer & Assessor.
